Our Approach
We believe that spatial design is no mystery. It’s about making smart choices that work in coordination with each other.
Our vision – Space that works
Arcudio, was founded by Maxine Burge (nee. Bennett), to create space that works.
Logical layout and ergonomic design that seamlessly fits the occupiers requirements. By listening to them we can deliver spaces that work hard and become a true reflection of the client, through collaboration with industry leaders.
An experienced and accomplished designer can deliver an interior space that is as aesthetically pleasing as any work of art, has the ability to positively affect mood and create memorable experiences. Fashion is fleeting but practicality, longevity and flexible spaces will endure.’ Maxine Burge
Meet Maxine
I have worked globally for the last 20 years in the Interior Design and workplace consultancy industry.
After graduating from Hull School of Architecture I started my career working client side as an Architectural consultant for AWW architects in the facilities management department on site at Hewlett Packard’s ‘HP Labs’ in Bristol, whilst the site was transformed. The challenges of over 1500 employees, incubator businesses, 6 buildings with a diverse range of functions including: office; labs; server rooms and specialist electronic production including semi-conductors, I got to understand the many opposing pressures that a client is under during a re-organisation or move project.
Later, for the same large Architectural practice, I relocated back to head office and worked as part of and for a time heading up, the interiors team. I worked on executive spaces for the inland Revenue and a ‘Space strategy’ for The Post Office as well as interior design for residential schemes.
Relishing the opportunity to work on residential niche projects I set up my own consultancy in 2001 before becoming a co-owner and Director of Wylde Interior Architecture in 2004.
I was awarded a place in the Insider ’42 under 42′ network which celebrates rising business stars. Winning multiple awards for projects including the British Council of Offices ‘Best commercial workplace’ for Seco Tools, I continued to deliver accomplished workplace design consultancy globally including BG Groups offices in Houston, Texas. Becoming increasingly interested in design that delivered ‘Wellbeing’, I co-founded the ‘Happiest Workplace’ competition which showcases businesses that ‘Do the right thing’ in terms of office design. Something I continue to lead as it moves to become a ‘not for profit’ organisation, to further develop its agenda.
My latest move is to build a new style collaborative consultancy with Arcudio, giving clients access to industry leaders on their projects. I continue to speak on the subject of ‘Design for Wellbeing’ and work as an associate lecturer on the University of the West of England’s Interior Design Degree.
She has a talent to pull together the right team to deliver a project and an exceptional eye for detail with a thorough understanding of construction. She is as happy during the design process as she is in hard hat and site boots.
Max says:-
Apart from the wonderful world of workplace design I am at home in nature or by the sea, preferring to be outdoors with my family, enjoying a coffee with friends or watching a band. I never stop learning and love a night-class or any opportunity to be creative and draw.
I can’t wait to see who I get to work with next, I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with some exceptional businesses and clients through my career so far at the architects or my previous design studios including:-
